The Journal by email

A monthly notice when the issue publishes, and a weekly summary of the newsroom. Plain text, no tracking pixels, no data sharing, unsubscribe in one click.

Two lists · no tracking · no data sharing · privacy

Two lists. The monthly notice goes out when an issue publishes and contains the table of contents, the editor’s letter in full and a link to every piece. The weekly summary lists what the newsroom filed that week, one line each. Both are plain text, both are short, and both are easier to unsubscribe from than to subscribe to.

This is a static publication, so the form below hands off to our mail address rather than posting to a server. Your client will open a pre-addressed message; send it and you are on the list.

You can change this later by writing to the same address.

Only used if you later write a letter we print, so the desk can verify a signature.

We hold your address and nothing else. No name is required.

What we hold, and what we do not

  • We hold: your email address, and which list you asked for.
  • We do not hold: your name, your location, your reading history, or anything you have clicked.
  • We do not do: tracking pixels, per-recipient link rewriting, open logging, click logging, or list rental, sale or sharing of any kind.
  • Sponsors get: nothing. Not a count, not a segment, not an aggregate.

One labelled sponsor unit may appear at the foot of the monthly notice, marked Advertisement, from the same four organisations named on our funding page. That is the whole commercial arrangement.

Unsubscribing

Reply to any email with the word "stop", or write to letters@compoundjournal.com. Removal happens the same working day and we keep no suppression record beyond what is needed to honour it. We do not ask why, we do not send a confirmation sequence, and we do not attempt to win you back.

If you would rather not

The entire archive is free, complete and open, and there is nothing in the email that is not on the site. The archive is the same content in reverse chronological order; the issue index is the same content arranged as it was published. Nobody needs to be on a list to read this publication.
