France declines to reimburse exenatide outside a specialist service
Efficacy was never the question in this appraisal. Duration of treatment was.
TheCompound Journal
Reporting on incretins, compounding & the peptide supply chain
Twice this month a company answered a question we had been asking for more than a year. Neither answer was flattering to the company and both were more useful than a year of press releases. I record it here because this department spends a good deal of its time noting who does not answer, and fairness requires the same prominence for those who do.
In this number, 60 pieces across 8 departments, with 110 further dispatches filed from the newsroom and 30 contributors on the page. We lead with Delphine Ruzek on Gradient slope is the single most consequential method parameter for a reported purity figure, and it is the one most often omitted and set beside it Perpetua Nwachukwu in Laboratory Notebook.
Our international correspondents keep sending back the same shape of story from different capitals: approval, restriction, waiting list, informal channel. The local details vary and the sequence does not. That pattern is the most important thing this journal has established about access, and it was established by people standing in pharmacies rather than by anyone reading a press release.
My thanks to the contributors in this number, to the fact-checking desk that sent three of them back, and to the readers who keep writing to tell us where we have been imprecise. The third group is doing unpaid work and we know it.
